Omni-Channel Commerce Platform Modernization for QSR Scale

Overview

ImagineX led a mission-critical engineering initiative for a national QSR chain's internally built suite of applications powering restaurant operations, including Point-of-Sale and kitchen systems. ImagineX hardened performance, reliability, and automated testing capabilities of the mobile applications relied on daily by operators and team members.

Problem

  • Legacy testing patterns and the absence of end-to-end automated frameworks created reliability risks for mission-critical restaurant applications

  • Simultaneous Tier 2+ production support and greenfield feature delivery strained engineering capacity

  • Complex interoperability requirements across multiple specialized POS and kitchen applications introduced integration risk

Solution

ImagineX deployed an advanced Android engineering pod, leveraging Kotlin, Realm, and Jetpack Compose to build next-generation restaurant mobile applications. The team built a custom Cash Management tool integrated with the new POS system and implemented Jenkins-based pipelines to automate unit, system, and smoke testing across engineering pods using industry-standard secure coding practices.

Outcome

  • Modernized technology stack positions the client for international expansion, with technologies designed to support new restaurant deployments in the UK, Europe, and Asia

  • Automated testing and measurable defect reduction decreased Tier 1 production support issues, improving platform reliability

  • Custom POS technology stack eliminates vendor lock-in, giving the client full ownership and flexibility over their commerce platform
